Chris Bishop's Nestbox Camera

5th April – There have been visits on 12th, 17th and 24th March and today and 2nd April but still no sign of nesting, I wonder whether they are just exploring now in searching for food as most other birds seem to be nesting now.

More visits on 25th, 27th February and on 1st and 8th March. A pair of birds on 8th. Rather concerned that none of them look like building whereas other birds have started nesting.

20th and 24th February – great tits still prospecting, fingers crossed

14th February – yet another great tit. Valentine's Day when the birds are supposed to pair up; is this a good omen?

12th February – another visit from a great tit

7th February – another inspection today by a great tit. The photo on the history page shows a close inspection of the camera!

3rd February – first visitors today, a pair of great tits. Tried improving focus but needs further work. History page contains further images of today’s activity.

21st January – the camera was fitted today – it looks as though I need to play around with the focus.

This project started last Spring but, despite prospecting by several tits (see History Page), nothing took up residence last year. The box has a different location this year which is more sheltered so fingers crossed.

Thanks to Jane & Mick and Will & Fran for the Christmas 2008 present, to PC Advisor forum for pointing me in the direction of TinCam (the software that captures the images) and to Garden Nature who supply all the rest of the kit.

At present the software is set to capture an image when it detects motion and the latest image is displayed on the right.

Anyone planning a similar project and needing advice is welcome to email as is anyone who can offer me advice!!
